The nurse-led Women's Ambulatory Clinic Services at Saint Peter's University Hospital in New Jersey boasts a 4% low birth weight rate for clinic clients, compared with a 12.5% state average. Case coordinator Mary Ann Awadalla provides prenatal education and follows women through their entire pregnancy to help pave the way for a healthy birth. "Many women's clinics are not nurse case management-focused," another case coordinator said. "That's what makes the difference. Our patients never leave the clinic without talking to a nurse."
