Construction on Pittsburgh's North Shore Connector under the Allegheny River is moving forward, even as funding for the project remains uncertain. The subway extension is scheduled to open in 2011, but the Port Authority is currently searching for $117.8 million to cover the project's cost overruns. Officials say 80% of the tunneling, which required a 500-ton boring machine, has been completed.
