A new unmanned aerial vehicle program at Kansas State University at Salina is one of just two in the country to train UAV operators. The program has worked with Wichita-based Flint Hills Solutions to serve as a liaison between UAV makers and government agencies such as FEMA, but since the aircraft are still generally restricted from flying in the national airspace, they have limited usefulness in efforts such as searching for survivors.
