American Eagle is looking for ways to cut manufacturing costs, including moving work away from China and eliminating details such as patterns on the inside of pockets. But the company is being careful not to go too far. Said the CEO: "There's a fine line between price and value."
Target plans to keep donating 5% of its profits to charity despite cutbacks in other areas. Last year, the retailer gave $169 million nationally in cash and in-kind contributions, and arts organizations are a top beneficiary.
As part of an effort to make its trucking fleet more efficient, Wal-Mart will test two types of hybrid trucks and two types that use alternative fuels, the company said. Fifteen trucks operating out of an Arizona distribution center will be modified to run on cooking grease, and in Southern California, the retailer will use trucks that run on liquid natural gas.
