A U.K. study found that exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease tend to cluster together in time, with more second exacerbations occurring sooner than later. The researchers said the data show a high-risk period for recurrent exacerbation in the eight weeks following an initial exacerbation, which they said suggests the need for targeted preventive interventions after an initial exacerbation.
