President Barack Obama is committed to making extensive changes to the health care system and believes that the economic downturn underscores the need for such action, said Jeanne Lambrew, deputy director of the White House Office of Health Reform. Speaking before policy experts, Lambrew detailed the health components of the economic-stimulus plan, as well as Obama's long-term proposals, including allowing people to choose whether to purchase a public insurance plan.
