More than 20 climate-change bills have been introduced on Capitol Hill so far this year, and the issue is no longer restricted to energy committees, as in years past. Aviation has become a major focus, with both airlines and aircraft makers targeted for reduced emissions. Alternative fuels and satellite-based air traffic control are two pieces of the climate change puzzle that enjoy broad support in the aviation industry. "If we had a full satellite system, planes would be able to fly point-to-point and reduce emissions from circling," says an official at the Air Transport Association.
