African leaders should not rally to the defense of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir should the International Criminal Court issue an arrest warrant Wednesday on charges of war crimes and genocide, says former Anglican archbishop Desmond Tutu. He urges African leaders -- who have signaled in communications to the UN Security Council the decision be delayed -- to recall 20 African nations were among the founders of the ICC and 30 member nations are in Africa. He also reminds three of the four active ICC investigations, all of which are focused on Africa, were urged by the target nations.
