The Homeland Security Department announced Thursday it will use $1 billion in stimulus funds to enhance security at U.S. airports. According to DHS, $700 million will be spent on systems for detecting explosives in checked bags, while $300 million will go toward improved screening technologies for passengers and their carry-on bags. At least 17 airports would be affected by the plan, which aims to create 3,000 jobs.
