Ottawa roofing contractor Donald Mann said this winter is one of the worst he has seen in decades, causing widespread damage to roofs. "[W]e're getting a large buildup of ice at the perimeter of the roof, and when the snow melts and tries to run off the roof, it can't get away," said Mann, who works for Sanderson Roofing. Instead, "it's dammed by the ice and it forces its way up under the shingles and people get water entry into the house."
Repairs to the roof of the Stu Peppard Arena in Calgary, Alberta, have been completed. The facility had been closed after snow buildup caused structural problems for two sections of the roof, a report said. The completion of roof repairs will allow the arena to be used for spring sporting events.
