Heavy rain is causing flooding in parts of northwest Ohio, particularly in and around Defiance at the junction of the Mauamee and Auglaize rivers, which surged to more than 8 feet above flood level. Communities in Illinois, Indiana and Missouri also have experienced some flooding, though to a much lesser extent. Meteorologists say the worst is over for the Midwest, but communities in New York and Vermont are bracing for flood watches.
