The Institute for Supply Management says its purchasing managers index showed a reading of 35.8% in February, which is virtually level from January's PMI of 35.6%, as manufacturing continues to decline at a rapid rate. The index reflects continuing contraction in all U.S. manufacturing sectors, including chemicals and plastics, and the slight gain in February was offset by widespread negative sentiment in the surveyed industries, officials said.
