Financial stocks received a boost from a U.S. plan to purchase Treasuries, but exporters were hit by strengthening Asian currencies, resulting in mixed markets today throughout Asia. Tokyo's Nikkei 225, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index and South Korea's Kospi all gave up 0.6%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 climbed 0.6%, while Taiwan's Taiex and New Zealand's NZX-50 both gained 0.7%. Singapore's Straits Times Index inched up 0.3%, and Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur Composite and the Shanghai Composite both rose 0.5%.
