As a kid, Marty Bevill took an after-school job sweeping hangars, just to spend more time around airplanes. Though he's had a pilot's certificate since 1988, it wasn't until he was laid off in December that he achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a certified flight instructor. "When you see that 17-year-old kid realize what makes a plane fly -- there's such a feeling of freedom with it," he says. Bevill, the owner of a Beechcraft Bonanza and a Piper Tomahawk, also volunteers with Angel Flight and transports children with health problems to the Victory Junction Gang Camp in North Carolina.
