A Scandinavian study of more than 5,500 women found that those who took oral contraceptives were 42% more likely to have asthma than women not taking the drugs. Researchers found the effect also varied by body mass index, with normal-weight women having 45% higher odds of asthma, compared with 91% higher for overweight women and 69% lower for lean women.
