A study found U.S. babies up to 6 months old are 59% more likely to be overweight than they were 20 years ago. The researchers also found nearly 40% of infants born to overweight or obese mothers were overweight by age 3, compared to 24% of those born to women who were of normal or below normal weight. Experts are urging new mothers to take off excess weight before conception, limit their pregnancy weight gain to 25 to 35 pounds, and consider breast-feeding for at least four months.
