Buildings account for one-third of carbon emissions causing climate change, according to the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Seven green buildings from across the globe showcase the latest energy-efficiency designs, including the Genzyme Headquarters in the U.S. and the Swiss Re tower in London. The Swiss Re tower, nicknamed the Gherkin for its pickle shape, uses 50% less energy than a conventional office building.
