The door appears open for a nuclear revival, even though funding has been cut for the proposed Yucca Mountain used-fuel repository in Nevada. Nuclear energy's problems seem to be "more manageable," and it is "the best of a set of not-so-good options" to displace coal for reliable, full-time power needs, says Per Peterson, a University of California, Berkeley, nuclear engineering professor.
