Kellogg CEO David Mackay is expected to tell lawmakers at a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing today that the FDA needs an authority devoted to food. Also, in prepared notes for the hearing, he supports yearly inspections at facilities making high-risk products.
U.S. food makers including Campbell Soup, Hormel Foods and Sara Lee are planning to expand in Russia, China, Brazil and other emerging markets. Campbell CEO Douglas Conant sees opportunity because "Russia and China account for around [50%] of world consumption of soup, all homemade."
Sustained exercise is more effective than sporadic for maintaining a healthy weight in children, research suggests. A study found that children who exercised for sustained bouts of five to 10 minutes were less likely to be overweight than those who exercised for less than five minutes at a time.
