The U.S. recorded its highest birth rate ever in 2007, with the 4,317,000 babies born topping the record set in 1957, according to data from the National Center for Health Statistics. The rate of teenage pregnancies also increased slightly, after dropping by one-third between 1991 and 2005. Births by unmarried women in 2007 also reached a record high of 40% of all births.
