As the largest consumer of oil in the U.S., the military spent $13 billion on energy in 2007. But, in a greening trend, the Pentagon must comply with a federal mandate to obtain 25% of its electrical needs from renewable sources by 2025. Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada hopes to do this with the country's largest solar farm, with more than 72,000 solar panels supplying more than 14 megawatts of electricity.
