The overall rate of delivery complications for pregnant women has held steady at 28.6%, but the prevalence of pre-existing medical conditions has increased from 4.1% to 4.9%, according to CDC researchers. The study compared discharge data from 2001 to 2005 with data from 1993 to 1997. Researchers said two reasons for the increase in pre-existing conditions might be that more obese women and more older women are getting pregnant.
