In an initiative that could give Twitter and Facebook a run for their money, Microsoft released the beta version of Vine, a Web application designed for users to keep track of friends, family and events. Vine maps a user's community, shows the statuses of contacts and offers buttons for sending alerts on the computer or a cell phone, Brier Dudley reports.
General Mills has built a network called MyBlogSpark that has recruited more than 900 bloggers with samples, coupons and product news. Bloggers are required to contact the MyBlogSpark team "if you feel you cannot write a positive post regarding the product or service."
While posting a 22% decline in net profit for last year, Prada explained its growth plans for when the global economy recovers. Prada Group, the Italian fashion house that owns Prada, Church's and other luxury labels, said it launched 34 locations last year, mostly in Asia and Europe.
So much for the reminder to turn off your cell phone in church: The Next Level Church in Charlotte, N.C., is actually encouraging attendees to tweet during services. Most attendees say tweeting throughout the service isn't the distraction they thought it would be and that it helps spread the church's message. "We want to leverage everything that happens technologically in our culture to help people to God and to teach each other," said Lead Pastor Todd Hahn.
