Civil engineering students participated in a competition at the University of Hawaii at Manoa to design a steel bridge capable of supporting 2,000 pounds. Competition coordinator Travis Nishino said professional engineers will select a winning design based on construction speed, strength, stiffness and aesthetics. The competition attracted more than 800 college students from across the country this year.
