A study of more than 6,000 middle-age and elderly Americans found blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels improved when people transitioned to Medicare at age 65. The study team noted that because blacks, Hispanics and less-educated adults are more likely to be uninsured, allowing them to qualify for Medicare earlier could help reduce racial and ethnic health care disparities.
