Letters were sent to about 200 former clients of convicted swindler Bernard Madoff asking them to return money withdrawn from their accounts before Madoff's firm collapsed. Irving Picard, the court trustee named to recover Madoff's assets for the benefit of his victims, sent the letters, theoretically because the money came from a scam and therefore should be returned so it can be given to Madoff's victims.
