The eight-point increase in the March Architectural Billings Index "should be viewed with cautious optimism," says the chief economist at the American Institute of Architects. The index rose to 43.7 in March, up from 35.3 in February, pushing the index above 40 for the first time since September. An index above 50 indicates an uptick in billings, while an index below 50 indicates a decrease.
