Seven in 10 European marketers this year are boosting their Web budgets, while only 8% have cut their online expenditures, the European Interactive Advertisers Association is reporting. The group's annual survey of 300 major marketers found the funds for the Web ad increase mainly are coming from their budgets for traditional media, with 46% saying they cut magazine spending, 37% trimmed TV and 32% reduced newspapers.
Gannett Digital Media Network is a new ad network that will offer placements on more than 100 Web sites, including USATODAY.com and local TV and newspapers sites, as well as niche areas such as the entertainment portal Metromix.com, HighSchoolSports.net and the MomsLikeMe.com social network.
The founders of News Corp.-owned social network MySpace, Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson, are stepping aside before their contracts expire in October, making way for former Facebook Chief Operating Officer Owen Van Natta to take over as chief executive. He'll report to Jon Miller, the newly installed chief digital officer of News Corp.
Several advertisers are using Outcast's mobile platform to deliver digital messages to consumers at gas pumps that encourage them to redeem coupons. "Our mobile platform is dramatically extending the impact and reach of our digital out-of-home network ... " Outkast CEO Matthew Stoudt said.
