One option for public health insurance could cover as many as 131 million Americans if it were to include all employers and individuals as well as pay doctors and hospitals the same as Medicare, according to a study from the Lewin Group. The report noted that the impact depends on the details of the final plan, but that such a move could cut enrollment in private insurance plans, adversely affecting the industry.
