Even though far more teens volunteer than their parents did at the same age, fewer teens spent time doing community service in 2007, research shows. In 2005, one in three 16- to 18-year-olds volunteered, but in 2007, the rate had dropped to 28%, the lowest level since at least 2002, according to Tufts University researchers. However, the recession and President Barack Obama's call for service may be reversing the trend, they say.
