Some teachers believe that Advanced Placement courses are losing their prestige and effectiveness as more students are allowed to enroll. About a third of the 1,000 teachers recently surveyed by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute said that students genuinely want to be challenged by the upper-level courses, but a large majority believes that more students are signing up for the rigorous courses to bolster their college applications.
