Some 5.6 million U.S. residents may live with paralysis, about 40% higher than previous estimates, according to a Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation survey of 33,000 U.S. households. Nearly 1.3 million people in the U.S. have sustained injuries to their spinal cords, about five times more than previously estimated.
