A review of two published clinical trials shows no evidence that statins, drugs that lower "bad" cholesterol, prevent Alzheimer's disease or dementia despite previous studies linking the drugs to reduced rates of the condition. The finding suggests that lipid-lowering drugs, such as Lipitor, Zocor and Crestor, should not be prescribed to prevent Alzheimer's, U.K. researchers said.
