VMware will roll out its new vSphere 4 cloud operating system in the second quarter in an effort to link the worlds of "private clouds" -- virtualized data centers -- and the increasing number of managed cloud-service offerings from companies such as Amazon.com. Lack of standards has held back the process, but VMware is now touting vSphere as a solution for businesses that don't want to rip out their existing network architecture.
