Learning how to manage transitions, as opposed to managing change, is an important skill for merging, restructuring and downsizing, writes Mary Donato, president of Applied Principles and associate director of the Institute for the Study of Business Markets. Among her five tips for organizations in transition, Donato suggests letting people "grieve" over the past while giving employees some measure of control over their future.
