Ninth-grader Shamsia Hosseini, an Afghan girl who in November was burned with acid as she walked to school, has returned to school despite the trauma. Teachers are nervous about the prevalence of acid attacks on female students and their instructors: "Every time you walk to school, you're looking behind your back to see if a motorcycle is following you," said Sadigha Rezaie. Some girls instead attend clandestine schools in their parents' homes.
