Already two years behind schedule, Boeing's 787 Dreamliner is the focus of an intense effort by mechanics and engineers to get the first jet into the air by the end of June. The company has 878 of the carbon-composite jets on order, representing about $140 billion, and eight currently in production. Six of them are earmarked for delivery to airlines beginning in early 2010, following 3,500 hours of flight time as required for FAA certification.
