Travel technology companies say airlines have a "natural advantage" when it comes to generating ancillary revenue because consumers book airline tickets first, before adding hotels, attractions and so forth. One expert says airlines could boost ancillary revenue 500% by better using Passenger Name Records to sell vacation add-ons. Additionally, airlines are beginning to experiment with greater in-flight sales of flower delivery and similar "virtual products" that don't require stocking on board.
