The economic downturn may make an unlikely backdrop for luxury, destination weddings, but industry experts say the trend is growing. A survey by the magazine Destination Weddings found that the market has grown from $3 billion in 2001 to an estimated $16 billion this year. Cathy Preece, a representative of St. Kitts, said a destination wedding with a limited number of guests can actually be more affordable than a large traditional wedding.
