Home-control manufacturer Control4 is set to upgrade its systems to ZigBee Pro this summer in a move that will eventually allow its more than 1 million ZigBee-based installed devices to interoperate with a range of third-party offerings. The effort has some industry watchers predicting that the open-source ZigBee protocol will emerge as the long-awaited standard format for home-control applications.
AT&T will provide access to Nokia's newly opened Ovi Store for its U.S. subscriber base this year, the carrier said as Nokia launched its answer to Apple's App Store. The store is available on 50 handset models to about 50 million subscribers worldwide.
Best Buy is adding to its lineup seasonal outdoor merchandise such as patio furniture and grills. The retailer is selling most of the products online only, though a few stores carry some of the items as a test.
CEA has formed a working group to study technologies related to viewing 3-D content. "As evidenced by the range of 3-D-enabled products at the 2009 International CES, the 3-D video market is growing quickly," said Brian Markwalter of the CEA. "The creation of CEA's new 3-D Technology working group reflects industry enthusiasm for ensuring interoperability among 3-D displays, glasses and video sources."
