Manufacturers, such as Briggs & Stratton, oppose a proposed switch to gasoline with higher levels of ethanol because of the damage inflicted on small engines. The Environmental Protection Agency is reviewing a request from ethanol producers to raise the ethanol levels from 10% to 15% in gasoline. The Environmental Working Group and the National Marine Manufacturers Association also submitted research to the EPA showing that 15% ethanol blends would damage engines.
