A new directive from the TSA to impose security badge requirements and background checks on general aviation pilots using commercial service airports would be costly and onerous to general aviation operations, according to Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer. The deadline for compliance with the rule has been pushed back to June 1 to address industry concerns, and in a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Schweitzer said the directive adds a level of bureaucratic supervision that is unnecessary.
