Restaurants increasingly are redefining their brands with new offerings. KFC, for example, is selling grilled chicken, McDonald's is making a name in coffee, and Pizza Hut has pasta on its menu. "This is a defining moment for the industry," says Hudson Riehle, research chief at the National Restaurant Association. "The financial crisis has brought with it a redefining of boundaries."
Marriott International has signed deals with developers to open 24 hotels throughout India by 2012. Six are slated to open this year, including five Courtyard-branded hotels and one operating under the Marriott name.
