The U.S. Green Building Council will launch a new rating system called LEED HC to be used to evaluate hospitals and health care facilities later this year. The new system takes into account how health care facilities use water, energy, materials and resources, among other things. The new system also eliminates factors that do not apply to health care, experts say. "What HC has recognized is that very few patients bicycle to the hospital, so it's changed the method of calculation for those points," noted Dan Haas, development manager for Skanska AB.
