Officials in New York this week announced 11 bills intended to strengthen oversight, interagency communication and safety protocols at abatement sites. The proposed legislation comes after a seven-month review of construction, demolition and abatement sites ordered by Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The legislation would require color coding and pressure testing for standpipe and sprinkler systems and mandatory submission of a detailed plan for demolition, among other things.
