Obese and diabetic youngsters were found to have thicker and stiffer carotid arteries than thinner children, which could raise their risk of having a stroke or heart attack in the future, a study found. Researchers said obese or diabetic youth also were more likely to have other risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as higher blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.
