U.S. researchers have created a continuously running camera that they say can capture 6.1 million shots a second with a shutter speed of 440 trillionths of a second. Researchers say the camera, which is based on a technology called serial time-encoded amplified microscopy, could be used in flow cytometry to detect the presence of rare cells, such as tumor cells, in fast-flowing blood that might indicate the early stage of a disease -- a feat not easily accomplished using conventional blood analyzers.
