Sprint Nextel again asserted that it would stem its customer losses this year after reporting a first quarter today in which subscriptions fell 0.4% from the prior quarter, including 1.3 million contract subscribers. Losses widened because of severance costs, but CEO Dan Hesse noted Sprint enjoyed its best sequential quarter ever in terms of gross additions -- sparked mostly by gains at the carrier's Boost prepaid wireless unit.
