Almost half of U.S. cell phone users feel "somewhat safe" shopping via cell phones, according to a Harris Interactive poll that found 26% thought the activity was completely safe. Security aside, only 46% said they would use their phones to shop, although younger adults seemed more willing to do so.
French consumers are particularly brand-conscious, and the country is engaged in a debate on branding. According to a survey, the country's Internet users said online marketing is playing a growing role in their buying decisions.
Advertising is getting a much-needed push toward the future via social networking, analyst Jonathan Yarmis writes. Word-of-mouth advertising is being taken to a new level. He notes, "Credibility now has a channel for mass distribution. It's called the Web and it particularly thrives in social networks."
