Women are more likely to have disabilities related to obesity and arthritis as they age, reducing their quality of life, according to geriatric researchers. The Duke University Cardiovascular Health Study found women had up to 2.5 times the disabilities as men their age, and up to 48% of the problems could be linked to obesity and arthritis. Researchers suggested that the tendency for women to gain weight as they grow older contributes to the problem.
